Rihanna: Barbados ought to be proud
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen sultry looks in the celebrity scene. When sultry looks are combined with an exotic name like Rihanna, it could set the gossip columns buzzing. There’s nothing scandalous, however, in the life of Barbados-born Rihanna; fact is her life is as wholesome as her beautiful, penetrating face.
Most people in their lifetime have one year that is especially memorable. For Rihanna so far that year is 2005. We say “so far” because the lady is still young and has not stepped off the success ladder. She’s meant to go higher and higher so 2005 will be just one of many memorable years for this talented singer. The year 2005 saw Rihanna zipping off to Japan with Gwen Stefani delighting Japanese crowds no end, posing in the magazine covers of Los Angeles and shooting her first film role in “Bring It On Yet Again.”
Def Jam Records was the company that released Rihanna’s initial album “Music of the Sun” and worked hard at finalizing it with Def Jam. Her second album, “A Girl Like Me” containing her hit songs Unfaithful and SOS, promises to be a continuing hit. The song “Unfaithful” still sits among the top 10 pop and digital charts. It has already surpassed sales of 1 million in the US. It sure is looking good.
Or should we say, smelling good? It’s official. Rihanna was chosen by Clinique Cosmetics to endorse the Clinique Happy perfume in a campaign that will launch in December. Rihanna’s close friend, Ne-Yo, another Def Jam artist and who co-wrote the song Unfaithful, was asked to compose a song for this campaign entitled “Just be Happy.”
Rihanna was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in a small parish town called St. Michael in Barbados. Usually success brings with it some wounds that many celebrities would rather not talk about in public, but Rihanna sustained no wounds and is therefore capable of bringing freshness and a sense of renewal in her singing. This year and the following years will have plenty in store for an individual who leads a clean life despite overwhelming success. The law of the universe, they say.
And here’s the latest and the greatest: Rihanna won the “Best International Video” in Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards held last June. Mariah Carey and Madonna were also nominated, but Rihanna bested these big names anyway.
The exotic lady with the sultry appearance is going nowhere but UP!
